Affordable Housing in Our Community

#AdvanceFortLauderdale supports the construction of diverse #AffordableHousing types to include single-family detached, attached and duplex housing, multi-family, and manufactured homes. What are some examples of affordable housing types you find to be well integrated within the community?

Yes, affordable housing is important as restaurants, stores, even the city, etc... have a need for workers.

Do we have any discussions though about increasing costs for homeowners? I find myself worried about flood insurance costs which is as high as my principal payment in the mortgage and I'm not even water front. I have no direct access to water but being in a considered "flood zone" I am obliged to pay flood insurance. I'm ok with paying, I just would like more control over the costs and something more on par with my house (older than 50 years), small (only two bedrooms), and elevated.

Hi joeconno,

Thank you for your comment. Insurance is a big contributor to our overall housing costs. I would like to share your comment with our floodplain staff to see if they have any helpful information to share. If possible, please contact me directly at ltappen@fortlauderdale.gov.

#AdvanceFortLauderdale aims to reduce the transportation costs by placing #AffordableHousing options closer to transit. If your transportation costs were reduced, what would you be able to do with the savings?

#AdvanceFortLauderdale and the #Housing element promote live, work, and play environments within our city. By providing accessibility to supporting services and amenities, each neighborhood can be an area where residents can enjoy. What are some of your neighborhood’s favorite characteristics and why?
